Terms & Conditions

Last updated 24 June 2026

These terms govern your booking and stay at De Meye Guesthouse. By sending a booking request, making payment, or staying with us, you agree to them on behalf of yourself and everyone in your party. Please also read our Refund & Cancellation Policy and our Privacy Notice, which form part of these terms.

1. Who we are

De Meye Guesthouse is a self-catering home operated by Hein Myburgh, at 4 Sesde Keerom, Jacobsbaai, 7395, Western Cape, South Africa. In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to De Meye Guesthouse, and “you” refers to the guest making the booking (the lead guest), who must be 18 or older.

2. How a booking is made

We use a request-to-book process:

The minimum stay is 2 nights. We may decline a request at our discretion.

3. Rates and payment

4. Check-in and check-out

Check-in is between 14:00 and 20:00. Check-out is before 10:00. If you expect to arrive outside these hours, please arrange it with us in advance. Late check-out is subject to availability and our agreement, and may incur a charge. We will send arrival details ahead of your stay.

5. Who may stay

The home sleeps up to 4 guests, plus one infant under 3 in a cot. The number of people staying may not exceed the number on your confirmed booking, and only the guests named on the booking may stay overnight. Day visitors are not permitted without our prior agreement. Exceeding the agreed number of guests, or sub-letting the property (including via any short-let platform), is not allowed and may end your booking without refund.

6. Identity verification

For the safety of our home and guests, we require the lead guest to upload a government-issued ID or passport before a booking is confirmed. We handle and store this strictly as described in our Privacy Notice, and delete it after your stay.

7. House rules

8. The property is self-catering

De Meye is a self-catering home: you cater for yourselves and have private use of the home for your stay. We provide the property and its facilities as described on our website. Minor differences between photographs and the home as it is on the day (for example seasonal changes to the garden or surroundings) do not entitle you to a refund.

9. Care of the property, damage and breakages

Please treat the home with care and leave it reasonably tidy. You are responsible for any loss of or damage to the property, its contents or the surroundings caused by you or your party during your stay, beyond fair wear and tear. We may recover the reasonable cost of repair or replacement from you. Please report any breakage or fault to us as soon as you notice it.

10. Your responsibilities

11. Cancellations and refunds

Cancellations and refunds are governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy. In short: more than a month before check-in, 100% of the deposit is refunded; between a week and a month, 50%; less than a week before check-in, no refund. Bookings made through Airbnb, Booking.com or LekkeSlaap follow that platform’s cancellation policy instead.

12. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of or damage to your or your party’s personal belongings, vehicles or valuables during your stay. You and your party use the property and its facilities at your own risk. Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the booking.

13. Exceptional circumstances (force majeure)

We are not responsible for failing to meet our obligations because of events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, severe weather, fire, prolonged utility failure, civil unrest or government restrictions. In such cases section 9 of our Refund & Cancellation Policy applies.

14. Privacy

We process your personal information in line with our Privacy Notice and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
